PCI Design Award: UC Davis Health Parking Structure IV

By Caitlin Taffe

As the general contractor and manufacturer of the UC Davis Health Parking Structure IV, É«ÓûÍõ³¯ is proud to announce that the project has received the category. This award highlights our commitment to innovative and efficient construction solutions.

UCDH Parking Structure IV

The growing UC Davis Health Center required additional structured parking, prompting the selection of an underutilized site on the northeast corner of the campus. The team faced the challenge of designing a structure that minimized its impact on the surrounding residential area, focusing on noise, light spillage, and massing.

To address this, the team chose a prefabricated parking solution, reducing construction time and site disruption. Nearly 90% of fabrication was completed before the project received permits, allowing the structure to be built in just over 11 months. Additionally, transportation of prefabricated components occurred during off-hours to limit construction traffic on campus.

The five-story, 351,230-square-foot facility provides over 1,200 parking spaces. With a total project cost of $42 million, $9 million was allocated to the precast concrete components. The structure is pursuing Parksmart Silver certification and has been awarded Platinum status by the United States Resiliency Council for its sustainability and resilience.

Key design features include exposed double tee ends that enhance natural light and air flow, creating an open and inviting space. By reducing perimeter spandrel depth and increasing opening sizes, the structure challenges the typical perception of parking garages as dark and confined.

É«ÓûÍõ³¯ is proud of this project and remains committed to delivering high-quality, efficient, and sustainable solutions for our clients.
